Micro worms | Grindal Worms on Dirt or doing it Without Dirt | White Worms | Fruit Flies | Brine Shrimp | Red Wigglers

The mainstay of the Tropical Fish Industry. Commercial fisheries and Hobbyists around the world maintain their fry with Newly Hatched Baby Brine Shrimp (BBS)

Gallon glass jugs or 2 Liter pop bottles can have their bottoms cut out to make BBS hatchers. A stand made of wood with hole cut in it to hold up the containers and also hold a light source for heat and to help in collecting the newly hatched shrimp. With this method some air supply is necessary to keep the cysts tumbling and keep the newly hatched nauplii from suffocating. A rigid air line reaches to the bottom of the containers to keep them agitated.

The air can be turned off and the shrimp and egg shells will separate with the shrimp going to the bottom and toward the light and the shells rising to the top. Either syphon off the bottom or draw it out with a baster and filter through a very fine mesh Brine Shrimp Net or tightly woven handkerchief. Wash the shrimp with a little fresh water and feed to the fry and smaller fish.

Grindal worms grown in soil require moisture, food and attention.

Food for the worms includes trout chow, kitten food, dog food, most any kind of dried baby cereal.
The best, in my experience, has been Purina Kitten Chow

The bag washed and the washings collected for feeding.
Or the dirt and worms picked out of the culture and added to the tanks
for extra small live food additions.
They may be cultured without dirt. This may be easier
and provide a cleaner way to do things.

Fruit Flies without wings or with vestigial wings can be cultured and fed to all fish which take food from the surface.
