Punch or cut holes in the lids and glue papertowel to the underside.
A wad of waxed paper gives the adult flies a way to
climb out of the soup.
about 3 weeks more. It is best to keep cultures started fresh so one
is new every 7 to 10 days. After 4 weeks discard the culture
materials, clean the cup well and restart with flies from the
strongest culture.
A mixture of 4 cups of dry, instant potato flakes, a cup of powdered
sugar and a tablespoon of preservative will make enough media for
3 months - or depending on how many cultures one goes through.I
add a pinch of active dry yeast and an equal volume of water to the
culture cup and a wad of waxed paper. Let the potatoes swell for a
couple of hours and add flies.
